January 2015 - Navin Fluorine announces US$15m expansion at its facility in Dewas, India

Dewas, India and Informex, New Orleans, USA: Navin Fluorine International Limited (NFIL), one of India’s largest speciality fluorochemicals manufacturers, today announced details of recent major investments at its cGMP manufacturing site in Dewas, India, aimed at significantly increasing the company’s capacities. The increase in capacity has been necessitated by record levels of customer demand, with 2014 marking a milestone sales year for both NFIL and its subsidiary Manchester Organics Limited.

The expansion is intended to support all aspects of NFIL’s cGMP and non-cGMP manufacturing capabilities and will create what is believed to be the worlds’ largest SF4 fluorination facility. NFIL already possess one of only a handful of cGMP-certified fluorination facilities in India and the new state of the art plant will enable it to keep pace with rising global demand for fluorinated intermediates and building-blocks, both of which are crucial for the development of numerous pharmaceutical and agrochemical intermediates.

An investment of close to USD 15 Million will see a five-fold capacity increase, creating one of the largest cGMP manufacturing sites in India and the only large-scale SF4 fluorination facility of its type in the world.

The installation of new capacity is also supported by an extension of the current research and development laboratories along with new warehousing at this zero liquid discharge site at Dewas. The primary function of the expanded facility will be to allow continued support for customers’ projects as they move from later-stage development and into commercial production. The facility is currently undergoing commissioning ahead of its official opening at the end of March 2015.

"Whilst there are still three months of our financial year remaining, we can say that 2014-15 has seen significant year-on-year growth in sales across both businesses and is likely to end up a significant growth year for NFIL & for MOL" commented Shekhar Khanolkar, Managing Director. "The new plant gives us the flexibility to continue with our aggressive growth plans, whilst ensuring we maintain our high service levels to existing customers." He added, "With a record number of new projects in our pilot plant as we start 2015, and the outlook for the rest of the year looking just as strong, it was important we made these investments now to safeguard our ability to both attract and successfully complete new, and often challenging, projects".

November 2014 - CPhI Worldwide 2014 proves to be a big success for Navin Fluorine & Manchester Organics

CPhI Worldwide, the leading global pharmaceutical ingredients event, was held this year in Paris, France. Both Manchester Organics and parent company Navin Fluorine had a strong presence at the show and signs are good that the 2014 show could turn out to be the group’s most successful one yet.

Jordi Robinson, Global Head of Technical Business Development, gives his thoughts on the 2014 show;

CPhI Worldwide is always a big show for anyone engaged in the manufacture of pharmaceutical ingredients and 2014 was certainly no exception. Nearly all the members of our technical and business development teams attended and we hosted a record number of meetings over the three days, which in itself shows the benefits of having a significant presence on the show floor.

All of our biggest customers were in attendance and getting to meet all of them in just three days is not something we can ordinarily do - especially when you consider that we have a strong customer base on three continents!

Another big attraction of CPhI is the opportunity to meet new contacts and this year in particular we met with many interesting new companies on our stand. All of the new contacts had specifically searched us out for our expertise in organo-fluorine chemistry, with several of them coming from parts of the world which would (still) be difficult for us to reach.

Face-to-face meetings are an important part of our business development strategy and as such, having a strong presence at CPhI remains central to our aims of becoming a truly global player in speciality fluorochemicals.

We have secured a number of new orders as a direct result of our meetings at the show and expect more to follow in the coming weeks. We’d like to thank all of our customers for making CPhI 2014 such a success and have already booked our space for Madrid in 2015.

October 2014 - Navin Fluorine International accredited as a Responsible Care Company

Responsible CareResponsible Care is a unique initiative that drives continuous improvements in health, safety and environment performance together with open and transparent communication with stakeholders.

The Responsible Care certification was initiated by the Canadian Chemical Producers Association in the late eighties and is awarded in India by the Indian Chemical Council.

Navin Fluorine is one of the few chemical companies in India to have been awarded this certification and the use of the Responsible Care logo.

This has been possible only after extensive audits of our facilities and our approach towards sustainable manufacturing practices.

By adopting Responsible Care, we will endeavour to use green chemistry, use and release less hazardous material, save resources and conserve energy.

December 2013 - Manchester Organics to expand UK facilities

Due to the continued growth of its business, Manchester Organics (MOL), part of the Navin Fluorine group of companies, is to make significant investments in upgrading its laboratory facilities at The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn in a 10-year deal that will keep its cutting-edge research and development work in the north of England.

Since its founding in 1996, MOL has become a world leader in fluorination, high pressure chemistry, research and manufacturing. The company has a skilled team of highly qualified chemists, working from a purpose-built facility at The Heath containing both chemistry and analytical laboratories.

In May 2011, Navin Flourine International imited (NFIL) acquired a controlling stake in MOL; the company now has locations in the UK, India and USA and is listed on the Mumbai stock exchange. It serves clients from all sectors of the chemical industry, ranging from pharmaceuticals through to electronics. The manufacturing capabilities range from research and development through to commercial scale production.

Lesley Lunt, Sales and Marketing Manager of SOG, the owner and operator of The Heath Business and Technical Park, said: 'We are delighted that MOL will continue its ground-breaking work here at The Heath. Committing to substantial investment in the laboratory facilities it uses, and to a 10-year licence, is a fantastic endorsement of the service we offer to the companies we have on site. We are very proud to have a world-renowned company like MOL at The Heath and wish the team continuing success in the future.'

Dave Tovell, a director of MOL, said: 'We have been at The Heath since 2005, moving our entire UK operation to the current premises in 2009. There are around 40 employees on-site and we will be upgrading our laboratories with major investment.'

He added: 'The team at The Heath has a very flexible approach and they are comfortable with chemistry based companies. They support us in a number of ways; for example The Health and Safety Team at the Heath complements our own team and enables us to concentrate our efforts on growing and developing our business. SOG also take away the headache of having to manage the infrastructure of a fully serviced laboratory facility and we are very pleased to have signed the new agreement to stay.'

Over the past 30 years the use of fluorine in both pharmaceutical and agrochemical compounds has increased significantly and with the lack of natural sources of fluoro-organic compounds, the development of the field is highly reliant on specialist manufacturers such as MOL & NFIL.

With the new investment now agreed, MOL can continue its twin focus of developing its own range of novel fluoro-organics and undertaking a broad-range of confidential, custom projects, specifically tailored to the needs of individual clients.

November 2012

Manchester Organics Limited (MOL), a world leader in fluorination technology and part of Navin Fluorine International Limited, India (NFIL), today announced the appointment of Jordi Robinson to the position of Global Head – Technical Business Development; effective immediately.

The newly-created position reflects MOL’s ambitious growth targets for the coming year and is also a sign of how it has grown rapidly since its founding in 1996 to become one of the leading players in the field of specialist organo-fluorine chemistry.

Jordi will be responsible for developing all aspects of MOL’s business, including its catalogue, which offers over 17,000 carefully selected building blocks and intermediates, and its well-developed custom synthesis business, which builds on the company’s strong expertise in fluorination, hydrogenation and carbonylation chemistry to offer both fee for product and FTE services, as well as identifying and developing opportunities for further scale-up at MOL’s parent company NFIL.

A chemistry graduate with over 18 years experience within the chemical industry, Jordi has an excellent technical background and a strong track-record of increasing sales and developing new business opportunities in all sectors of the industry, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials science.

Jordi brings energy, experience and a new perspective to our business and we are thrilled to have him join our team. He is very experienced in developing new projects with the potential for scale-up, which is something that has attained greater significance since our takeover by Navin Fluorine.

Jordi joins us at an extremely exciting time in the history of our company and we expect him to help strengthen the collaborative work with Navin and also contribute hugely towards our aim of being the world’s largest provider of fluorinated intermediates.

September 2012

We are pleased to introduce a new range of SF5 building blocks to our product catalogue:

Until recently, the SF5 group was under-represented in drug discovery programs due to the scarcity of commercially available and synthetically useful products. We believe that this group has a promising future in life science research due to its interesting properties:

(1) The volume of the SF5 group is larger than the CF3group and slightly smaller than the tert-butyl group
(2) The SF5 group is more electronegative than the CF3 group
(3) The SF5 group is very stable under strong acidic and basic conditions

Therefore, the SF5 group is a suitable tool to modulate the steric hindrance, lipophilicity and electronic properties of your candidates and it is likely that this group will soon open up new intellectual property space.

We have added over 90 new SF5 products to our current range, some examples shown below:
