High Pressure Chemistry
Hydrogenation
We routinely carry out hydrogenation reactions at elevated pressures (up to 150 bar) and temperatures (up to 200 °C) in our high pressure suite. This purpose built laboratory incorporates all necessary equipment, services and infrastructure to perform hydrogenation safely with rapid project turnaround. Our modern facilities include vessels made from stainless steel, Monel® and Hastelloy® with capacity from 50 ml to commercial production. These remotely controlled vessels are housed in blast bays and are equipped with burst discs, dump-tanks, piped services and gas detection.
An example of a high pressure hydrogenation is depicted below.
Carbonylation
We regularly carry out carbonylation reactions with high pressure carbon monoxide gas. This reaction type is often employed to transform aryl halides to aldehydes and esters.
An example of high pressure carbonylation is illustrated below.

In conjunction with Sytracks we are now able to offer our customers bench scale carbonylation kits. COware and COgen are specifically developed to allow users to perform small scale carbonylation reactions in situ. Please click here for more information.
Amination
High pressure amination with ammonia and other nucleophilic amines is also frequently carried out.
An example of high pressure amination is depicted below.

Miscellaneous
A range of other high pressure reactions, notably fluorination, are also carried out in our facilities.
